Cat6 Cable Supplier in Chennai
Star Networking Services supplies Cat6 UTP cable, Cat6 information outlets (jacks) and patch cords from Molex, Honeywell, D-Link and CommScope for structured cabling projects across Chennai — with bulk pricing and GST invoicing for contractors and IT teams.
What Cat6 cable actually gives you
Cat6 is tested to 250 MHz and carries 1 Gbps comfortably across the full 90-metre permanent link, with 100 metres of channel once patch cords are added at each end. It will also carry 10 Gbps, but only over shorter distances — typically 37 to 55 metres, depending on how much interference the surrounding bundle produces.
For the majority of office, retail and institutional networks that is exactly the right specification. Desktops, IP phones, printers, access-control readers and most access points are gigabit devices, and Cat6 serves them across any run a normal floor plate demands.
- Bandwidth tested to 250 MHz
- 1 Gbps across the full 90 m permanent link
- 10 Gbps over shorter runs, roughly 37–55 m
- Backward compatible with Cat5e hardware
- 4-pair 23 AWG solid conductor for permanent links; stranded for patch cords
Cat6 or Cat6A for your project
Cat6A is tested to 500 MHz and holds 10 Gbps across the full 100-metre channel. The difference is not raw speed but speed held over distance, plus control of alien crosstalk — interference between neighbouring cables in the same tray, which becomes the limiting factor at 10 Gbps.
Cat6A is also physically larger, roughly 7–8 mm outer diameter against 5.5–6 mm for Cat6, and needs a wider bend radius. On a retrofit where conduit is already in the walls, measure before specifying it; we have seen cable ordered that the existing duct would not take.
Most projects we supply end up mixing the two: Cat6A on backbone and riser links and to Wi-Fi 6 access points, Cat6 to the desks. That puts headroom where it changes something and avoids paying for it at every outlet.
Components have to match the category
A cabling channel performs at the level of its weakest component. Cat6 cable terminated into Cat5e jacks gives a Cat5e channel. If you specify a category, specify it end to end — cable, information outlets, patch panels and patch cords.
Field-terminated patch cords are one of the most common reasons a link fails certification. Factory-terminated cords are tested at manufacture and remove that variable entirely.
- Cat6 UTP cable — 305 m box for permanent links
- Cat6 information outlets (jacks) from CommScope and D-Link
- Faceplates and back boxes sized for the jacks
- Factory-terminated patch cords in 1 m and 2 m
- Patch panels matched to your rack and port count

Working out quantities
For a quick estimate, average cable run length multiplied by outlet count, plus 10–15% for routing, slack and terminations. A 305 m box covers roughly 10–12 outlets at a 25 m average run.
Each outlet needs one jack, one faceplate position, one patch panel port and two patch cords — one at the desk, one in the rack. Ordering jacks and cords to match the outlet count is where most BOQs go wrong.
Send us your floor plan, outlet count or BOQ and we will work the quantities and give you a line-by-line quote.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you supply Cat6 cable in bulk for Chennai contractors?
Yes, we supply Cat6 UTP cable, information outlets and patch cords in bulk with GST invoicing to structured cabling contractors and businesses across Chennai.
Which brands of Cat6 cable and patch cords do you stock?
We stock Cat6 cabling products from Molex, Honeywell, D-Link and CommScope.
What is the difference between Cat6 and Cat6A cable?
Cat6 is tested to 250 MHz and carries 1 Gbps across a full 90-metre link, with 10 Gbps possible over roughly 37 to 55 metres. Cat6A is tested to 500 MHz and holds 10 Gbps across the full 100-metre channel, with better control of alien crosstalk. Cat6A is also thicker and needs a larger bend radius, which matters when conduit is already in place.
How much Cat6 cable do I need for my office?
Multiply your average run length by the number of outlets and add 10 to 15 per cent for routing, slack and terminations. A 305 metre box typically covers 10 to 12 outlets at a 25 metre average run. Send us your floor plan or outlet count and we will work out exact quantities.
Do I need solid or stranded Cat6 cable?
Solid conductor cable is for permanent links running through walls, ceilings and conduit from the rack to the outlet. Stranded conductor is for patch cords, where the cable is flexed repeatedly. Using stranded for a permanent link, or solid for a patch cord, will cost you performance and reliability.
Can I use Cat6 cable for PoE cameras and access points?
Yes. Cat6 supports PoE, PoE+ and PoE++ powered devices including IP cameras, wireless access points and VoIP phones. For higher PoE classes over long runs, the larger conductor in quality Cat6 helps limit voltage drop and heat build-up inside bundles.
Do you deliver Cat6 cable across Chennai?
Yes, we supply to sites across Chennai. Share your delivery location and required quantities along with your enquiry and we will confirm availability and timing with the quote.
Can you supply the jacks, faceplates and patch cords together?
Yes. We supply the complete structured cabling package — Cat6 UTP cable, information outlets from CommScope and D-Link, faceplates, factory-terminated patch cords and matching patch panels — so the whole channel is the same category.
